Winter 2022 Newsletter

Approaching Christmas, I hope that you have a lovely winter season of games to enjoy!

Inner Circle Rpg - Kickstarter completed!

My black comedy push-your-luck story game of horrible lieutenants competing for the favour of their despotic leader successfully kickstarted successfully, and I’ve not got delivery of all rewards out to customers (I’ve seen at least one print example has landed in the USA)

If it sounds interesting but you missed the Kickstarter it will be available right now through DriveThruRpg and will be on other channels soon.

Expect Three Visitors

This is retrospective game inspired by the story of Scrooge. Each player is a spirit acting as a ghost of the past, present and future; uncovering the life of someone trapped by one of the seven deadly sins and trying to bring them to redemption. One of my early playtests is summarised here: https://planesailinggames.com/expect-playtest.html

What better time of year to play your own game with Scrooge (or others) and find out how things turn out in your version of the story?

I would love to run a public play test of this, and will be looking for interested people!

Retrospective Games

As I’m planning out some of the games I’m working on for 2023, I realised that it might be worth extracting the underlying structure of the games and publishing it as a “system reference document” so that anyone who wants to can build their own games on the fundamental structure.

It’s suitable for any game where you start “just before the end” and then tell the story retrospectively, looking back at the ups and downs, the highs and lows along the way.

I’m going to put it up on my plane sailing games website and on itch - hopefully so I can run a game jam there.

The Long Road Home

This is a retrospective game inspired by the hobbits returning to the shire after the main events of the Lord of the Rings have been completed. Friends journeying together and remembering he adventures they had, the friends which they made along the way… and the friends that they lost too.

I’d like to include fantasy, science fiction and post apocalypse settings. Perhaps a horror setting too.

This is in the early stages of development, so look out for some design diaries on my blog.

The Suffragette Game

I still don’t have a formal title. I’m now thinking of calling it something like “the price of a vote” because I want to capture the struggle of the time and help people think about the value that the ability to vote is.

I think this is going to be a Retrospective game too, but I’m still in the early stages of research and reading about the suffragettes. I’m taking this slowly because it’s an important subject and I want to do right by the people who battled for the vote for real.
