What’s Happening
There are three projects that are actively underway at the moment. One is a supplement to Starguild, one is a black comedy and one is inspired by A Christmas Carol.
Adventures in the Underbelly
One of the most frequently asked questions during the Starguild kickstarter launch was “do you have rules for cybernetics or psionics?” As a result, shortly after launch I started working in collaboration with a good friend, Guy Sargeant, on both cybernetic and psionic rules for Starguild: space opera noir. It’s been a long journey, with a number of pauses while I developed and launched A Cool and Lonely Courage and Love & Barbed Wire, but the editing process has now completed and all I have to do is finish the cover artwork and I’m ready to launch the first supplement for Starguild. If you would like to refresh your memory on some of the blog posts about this product, you can find some short posts on:
Inner Circle
My black comedy story game of horrible lieutenants competing for the favour of their despotic leader is now available for playtesting. I think that the basic rules are sound and I’m working on some additional prompts for each of the settings. Very loosely based on the card game known as ‘21’, ‘pontoon’ or ‘blackjack’, it is a game where you push your luck presenting outrageous propositions to your despotic leader and hoping to keep your credibility while all around you fail. There will be fictional, historical, contemporary political, business and weird settings outlined in the game. I’ve written a few blog posts about the development process here:
Expect Three Visitors
A good friend, Peggy O’Connell, suggested that the basic rules engine could be tweaked to produce a game based on “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. She also suggested this lovely title. I’ve been working on the first draft which I may release as an ashcan version - each player is a spirit who was sent back to redeem someone whose life was blighted by one of the seven deadly sins (Scrooge was greed, obviously). During the game the spirit and the patient will view scenes, framed by the spirit and played by the other players, from the patients’ past, present and future. I think this will be a fun little game, and I’m looking forward to playtesting it with people. If you are interested, please let me know!
Other Recent Activity
There are a couple of recent blog posts on my site which you might find interesting:
Review - The Between: A lovely little game by Jason Cordova. Troubled supernatural investigators in a darker-than-life Victorian London investigating threats. Great fun, and I introduce some of the things that I particularly enjoy about it mechanically.
Retrospective on 2021: Looking back on 2021; the good, the bad and the ugly. There is a lot that I’m grateful for, and I try to highlight those things; in particular games that I’ve enjoyed and successful launches.
For Metatopia 2021 I was able to participate in an online panel “The many meanings of diceless” which was great fun and hopefully interesting too. You can find that here:

New Places to Purchase
I’m delighted to announce that printed copies of Love & Barbed Wire are in the process of being shipped to Indie Press Revolution. I’m so grateful that they are taking on my games to distribute and sell; it makes a big difference to me. Hopefully in 2022 they will find it easier to get out to conventions once more, and both A Cool and Lonely Courage and Love & Barbed Wire will appear on their tables to enchant and enthral people!Plane Sailing Games on Indie Press RevolutionI’ve also set up an itch store, because I know some people prefer buying from itch and I’d like to make sure that my games can be purchased in the places where people go. You can find it herePlane Sailing Games on itch.ioIf you have read down this far, thank you - I really appreciate your interest in the work of Plane Sailing Games and I do hope to continue making games which you enjoy.
Best wishes for 2022
